June/July 2011 Police Calls

Taken directly from Winfield Police Department reports

On June 16, 2011 at 7:50 A.M., an accident occurred at the intersection of Jewell and Winfield Roads. The contributing cause was failure to reduce speed to avoid crash.

On June 16, 2011, at 8:59 P.M. an accident occurred at 0 N 025 Winfield Road. The contributing cause was improper backing.

On June 17, 2011, at 6:42 P.M. an accident occurred at the intersection of County Farm Road and Parkway.  The contributing causes were following too closely and evasive action due to animal, object or non-motorist.

On June 17, 2011, at 9:12 P.M. an accident occurred at the intersection of Waterford and Winfield roads.  The contributing cause was for following too closely and failure to reduce speed to avoid crash.

On June 17, 2011, 12:50 P.M., an officer was dispatched to the 1N500 block of Turnberry for a Criminal Damage to Property report.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with resident who stated that their breakfast nook window had been broken. Damage estimated at $500.

On June 17, 2011, at 4:26 P.M., an officer was dispatched to the area of Chase Bank for an accident.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with complainant who stated that their black Lexus was parked on the north side of the parking lot facing north and a black Chrysler was parked to the east or passenger side. When the driver of the Chrysler exited their vehicle their driver’s door made contact with the passenger door of the Lexus, making a mark.

On June 18, 2011, at 11:30 P.M., Winfield officers received numerous calls in reference to several loud parties in the area of Peter/Parkway and Blair Street. The residences involved were given initial warnings to reduce the volume of noise. Citations were subsequently issued for non-compliant residents who continued to violate the noise ordinance violations.  A report was filed.

On June 19, 2011, at 6:01 A.M., an officer was dispatched to the Klein Creek Golf Club for a vandalism complaint.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with the manager who stated that the 16th green was vandalized. The damage to the green was estimated at $1,500.00.

On June 19, 2011, at 1:41 P.M. an officer was dispatched to the 0S180 block of Church Street for a theft report.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with complainant who stated that an unknown individual removed spindles from the railing to the north side of the building.  The estimate to replace the spindles is approximately $100.00.

On June 20, 2011, at 9:05 A.M., an accident occurred at the intersection of County Farm and Jewell Roads.  The contributing cause was following too closely.

On June 20, 2011, at 10:50 A.M. an accident occurred at the intersection of Manchester and Jefferson.  The contributing causes were failure to yield the right-of-way and failure to reduce speed to avoid crash.

On June 20, 2011, at 12:37 P.M., an accident occurred at the intersection of County Farm and Jewell roads.  The contributing cause was failure to reduce speed to avoid crash.

On June 23, 2011, at 2:49 P.M. an accident occurred at 0N025 Winfield Road.  The contributing cause was unable to determine.

On June 24, 2011 at 5:30 A.M., an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Army Trail and County Farm Road to meet with the Roselle Police Department for a prisoner transport.  Roselle Police had custody of a subject wanted on an original warrant issued by the Winfield Police. Upon arrival the Winfield officer took custody of the subject, who was transported to the Winfield Police Department, processed, served with requisite paperwork, I-Bonded and released.

On June 24, 2011 at 11:35 A.M. an accident occurred at the intersection of County Farm Road and Jewell Road.  The contributing cause was failure to reduce speed to avoid crash.

On June 24, 2011 at 1:40 P.M. an accident occurred at the intersection of County Farm Road and Geneva. The contributing cause was following too closely.

On June 25, 2011 at 5:59 A.M., an officer responded to Klein Creek Golf Course in regards to a Criminal Damage to Property report.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with the maintenance manager who stated that someone threw a large rock through the window of the starter shed at the first tee.  The damaged was observed and documented.

On June 25, 2011 at 4:40 A.M., an officer responded to the Winfield Fire Station #2 for a parking complaint.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with complainant who stated that a GMC Truck with trailer, was left unoccupied in the lot.  Attempts were made to contact the registered owner.  Due to the proximity of the vehicle by the side bay door, and the need for the Winfield Fire Personnel to obtain equipment in an emergency, the officer in charge approved the removal and towing of the vehicle.

On June 26, 2011 at 12:04 A.M., an officer on patrol near Winfield and Highlake observed 2 male subjects on the sidewalk in front of Caliendo’s looking like their would be an altercation. The officer arrived at the scene and discovered that one of the subjects had a loaded black hand gun. Restaurant owners provided a copy of a surveillance video to be viewed and put into evidence. The subject was transported to the Winfield Police Department and served with a criminal complaint and I-Bonded.  The handgun and surveillance video was placed into evidence.

On June 26, 2011 at 9:04 A.M., an officer responded to the 0N400 block of Cloos St. in regards to an egging report.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with the complainant who stated that someone threw eggs at his house as well as at their car that was parked in the driveway.

On June 26, 2011 at 2:10 P.M. an officer was dispatched to the Aurora Police Department to serve a warrant. The Aurora Police Department had custody of a subject wanted on an original warrant issued by the Winfield Police Department. Upon arrival the Winfield officer took custody of the subject, who was transported to the Winfield Police Department, processed, and served requisite paperwork.  The subject was then transported to the DuPage County Jail and left in their custody.

On June 29, 2011 at 2:30 A.M., officers were dispatched to the Winfield prairie path for a medic assist. The officer observed a male/white lying on the ground “huffing” a can of air cleaner.  As a result, the subject was transported by the Winfield Fire Department Paramedics to Central DuPage Hospital.

On June 28, 2011 at 9:03 P.M. an officer was dispatched to the Shell station for a report of an older man needing assistance.  Upon arrival the officer located the subject and proceeded to gather personal information. A records check discovered that the subject was reported missing from Downers Grove.  Contact was made with the Dowers Grove Police Department and they were notified that the subject was found and transported to Central DuPage Hospital by Winfield Paramedics.

On June 28, 2011 at 12:34 P.M., an accident occurred at the intersection of Forest and Manchester. The contributing cause was due to disregarding a stop sign.

On June 29, 2011 at 8:00 A.M. an officer responded to a burglary to motor vehicle on the 27W200 block of Churchill Rd.  The complainant stated that a digital camera valued at $120.00 and a GPS unit valued at $300.00 was stolen sometime during the night from their unlocked vehicle.  No offender information was available.

On June 29, 2011 at 8:00 A.M. an officer responded to a burglary to motor vehicle on the 27W200 block of Churchill Road.  Complainant stated that an iPod valued at $120.00 was taken sometime during the night from their unlocked vehicle.  No offender information was available.

On July 1, 2011 at 7:40 A.M., an officer responded to a burglary to motor vehicle on the 27W100 block of Sycamore.  A radar detector, GPS unit and approximately 40 CD’s were taken from the vehicle that was parked on the driveway. Estimated value of the items stolen is $320.00.

On July 1, 2011 at 8:29 A.M., an officer was dispatched to the 1N200 block of Tamarack Dr. for a burglary to motor vehicle report.  Sometime during the night, an unknown offender removed several items from a vehicle parked on the driveway.  Items included a Garmin GPS unit, iPod Nano, sunglasses and currency valued at $300.00.  No forced entry to the vehicle was observed.

On July 1, 2011 at 2:13 A.M., an officer responded to a criminal damage to vehicle report on the 27W000 block of Cooley.  The front windshield of a vehicle parked on the driveway was smashed by an unknown offender.  The amount of damage done to the vehicle was unknown at the time of the report.

On July 2, 2011 at 5:55 A.M. an officer responded to the Klein Creek Golf Club, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road for a criminal damage to property report.  Damage occurred to the grass turf and some wooden guard rails were removed from a bridge.  The cost of the damage was not reported.

On July 2, 2011 at 9:16 A.M., a criminal damage to property report was initiated as an officer noticed graffiti sprayed onto the outside far west window of the Winfield Metra Train Station, 27W467 Jewell Rd.

On July 5, 2011 at 10:16 A.M., an officer responded to St. John the Baptist School for a criminal damage to property report. Complainant stated that between July 1st and July 5th, an unknown offender pried off  the top of an air conditioning unit on the east side of the school.  The cost to repair the damage is unknown.

On July 5, 2011 at 6:10 P.M., a 44 year old Chicago man was arrested on an original warrant for driving under the influence of drugs, no insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  A cash bond of $300.00 was posted and he was released from custody.

On July 6, 2011 at 9:53 A.M. an officer responded to a criminal damage to property report at the Winfield Central School, 0 S 150 Park St.  Graffiti was sprayed on some of the playground equipment and on the playground rules sign north of the playground equipment.

On July 6, 2011 at 6:42 P.M., a four car accident occurred at the intersection of  Winfield Rd. and Highlake Rd.  No injuries were reported with one driver ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  Court date is pending.

On July 7, 2011 at 1:13 P.M., a 21 year old Wheaton man was arrested on an original warrant for driving under the influence of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper lane usage.  A $500.00 cash bond was posted and he was released from custody.
